Reminiscing

While reading through a selection of old festival programmes, I realized that together they create a rounded history of the times and the people who coloured those times in Ramelton over the last 36 years. In one of those programmes I mentioned how with 16 pounds left over from a Tops of the Town competition, Seamus McGee came up with the idea to have a festival to raise money for a much needed foyer/toilets for the Town Hall. That extension, now gone of course with the recent refurbishment, kept the hall able to function for the next thirty years.
The town has never lacked larger than life characters - Jim Birney, Mervyn Corry. Charlie McCahill who were adventurous and fearless. Ladies too selflessly gave of their time and energy to create events and functions and keep them fresh and innovative.

It is the legacy of all the various committee members since 1970

that today's committee is pleased to inherit,

acknowledge and honour. Those who have passed on are sadly missed but it is their contribution to the vitality and spirit of Ramelton that is celebrated.

The times have changed and the programmes reflect this. Events that were held in the early years would be entertained for insurance purposes today! The thing that never changes, however, is the whole-hearted commitment the people give to the Festival. The energy and humour that go into Festival Parade floats, the Singing Pub Competition, The Queen of the Lennon and all the festivities outlined the programme, show that Ramelton's community spirit is still special
