The bridge hangs crosses a 24m deep and 18m wide chasm to the tiny Carrick Island. Orginally a practical link to allow fischermend access to Carrick Island, a spot favoured by salmon. If you are bold enough to cross wihout thinking too much about the sea swirling below, it is a real adventure.

20 km östlich vom Giant´s Causeway, hinter Ballintoy (Co. Antrim) befindet sich eine der abenteuerlichsten Attraktionen Nordirlands, die Carrick-a-rede Rope Bridge.
Die Brücke hängt 25m über der See und führt über einen  20 m tiefen Abgrund zu den Lachsgründen einer kleiner Insel. Obwohl mit Handseilen und Netzen gut abgesichert, sollten nicht Schwindelfreie die Überquerung meiden.
